"How not to take yourself too seriously in a serious world"

Coming Soon to Oxley Retreat...Dave Conlon
Dave Conlon has been an activity director at the secondary school level for over 24 years. He has chaperoned over 100 dances and knows how to get Jello off the ceiling. He has presented keynotes and sessions to teachers and students all over Canada at leadership conferences and various Legion Halls. His international presentations have taken him to the US and Singapore (he returned to Singapore 7 time just because the Asian food is just so authentic there!). Dave is the Communications and Publications Director for the Canadian Association of Student Activity Advisors (CASAA), prepares national newsletters, sells all the CASAA resources, maintains a leadership website, corresponds with CASAA members through a monthly e-letter and still manages to get his fitness laps in the pool! The students in his school know him as the guy who knows how to fix the pop machine.
  • After presenting leadership seminars to students, teachers and parents in schools, leadership camps and conferences that have ranged from Tennessee, the North West Territories, Singapore and all across Canada; Dave finds his toughest audience still to be his four children at home. He is the writer and editor of three leadership books that have become the standard for leadership classroom curriculum and activities here in Canada.

  • As publications director for the Canadian Association of Student Activity Advisors, he put the first student leadership site on the Internet, one that is still a mecca for student activities and leadership ideas. Dave writes and publishes the CASAA newsletter, Above and Beyond, which is made available to over 3200 schools in Canada. He is happy to share his ideas and resources to anyone who will listen, and if you have heard him already, some of the jokes have changed.

  • The goal for the day at the Oxley Retreat House is to provide relaxation, rest, rejuvenation. We will have reflection, community building, Mass and Dave to deliver a motivating and humourous talk around leadership and perserverance.
